Research and Projects

Developing a clinician-facing web-based tool to provide first-line antibiotic recommendations and other relevent data such as antibiograms for use in long-term care homes in Ontario. Supervised primarily by Dr. Bradley Langford.
Leading the development of a clinical trial to determine whether antibiotics are effective in patients with advanced dementia and pneumonia. Supervised by Dr. Kieran Quinn.
Research project with Dr. Marie Hudson examining the specificity of a novel autoantibody (anti-RuvBL1/2) to systemic sclerosis in autoimmune myositis patients. Presented at the 5th Global Conference on Myositis in March 2024.

  • Built in 3 weeks with a team of 20 for ICU use during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Designed and implemented the React-based UI, which ran as a Linux service on a Raspberry Pi
  • Handled serial comms between an Arduino and the Pi with a Node.js/Express server
Award-winning project presented at the 2019 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.
  • An aid device for visually impaired people. Users visualize their surroundings through surround sound. Uses a data pipeline which projects optical images of a user’s surroundings into surround sound in real-time. Helps prevent head-level injuries that occur despite use of a white cane
  • Hosted on a trio of Raspberry Pi's communicating over an ad-hoc Wi-Fi network
  • Pipeline written in Python - communication handled by Flask servers; computer vision in OpenCV
Award-winning project presented at the 2017 Hydro-Quebec Super Expo-Sciences
  • A simple upper-body exoskeleton suit for lifting heavy objects, connected to an EEG headband. The EEG headband detects when the user is blinking or clenching their jaw and controls the suit, directing it to either tense or relax
  • Data pipeline involves Bluetooth communication between a native Android app and an Arduino

  • Helped build an armband capable of identifying finger motion using EMG and haptic feedback
  • With the Dashboard team, designed a React app for collecting data and testing ML models, and a hybrid Python-Flask/Node.js backend

Achievements and Awards

"Established in 2014 by the Class of Medicine 1988 in honour of their 25th anniversary of graduation, to recognize one or more medical students in the M.D.,C.M. program. The Prizes will be awarded to those who have undertaken the best community project within the Community Health Alliance Project (CHAP), with a view to affecting positive change in the society. Awarded on an annual basis by the Faculty of Medicine on the basis of merit."
Awarded for summer research with the NeuroSim group. Performed retrospective data analysis and dataset generation on library of footage of medical students and expert neurosurgeons using the NeuroVR virtual reality neurosurgery simulator.
