Micro-AUTOMATE, "Sue's Angels" group
Feb 2026 — Present
As part of a group of software engineers and medical trainees, designing and programming a website-based visualization tool for microbiological data across Ontario. So far, we have implemented on-the-fly antibiogram generation for user requests which are interpreted by a large language model. Plan to expand to include analysis tools across years and months and to incorporate into clinical practice. Supervised primarily by medical microbiologist Dr. Susan Poutanen.
The "PICC Your Moment" study

Research project examining the effect of timing of PICC insertion on risk of relapse of bloodstream infection. Proposal for obtaining data has been submitted. Supervised by Dr. Nick Daneman.

Collaborating on the deployment for public access of a validated algorithm for selecting an appropriate prophylactic antibiotic regimen for pre-operative prophylaxis. Supervised primarily by Dr. Alon Vaisman.
Long-Term Care Home Antibiogram Visualizer Tool, Public Health Ontario
Dec 2024 — Present
Developed and programmed a clinician-facing web-based tool to provide first-line antibiotic recommendations and other relevent data such as antibiograms for use in long-term care homes in Ontario. The websites have been distributed to clinicians working in long-term care homes and a study on uptake and effectiveness is underway. Supervised primarily by Drs. Bradley Langford and Nick Daneman.

  • Built in 3 weeks with a team of 20 for ICU use during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Designed and implemented the React-based UI, which ran as a Linux service on a Raspberry Pi
  • Handled serial comms between an Arduino and the Pi with a Node.js/Express server

Award-winning project presented at the 2019 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.
  • An aid device for visually impaired people. Users visualize their surroundings through surround sound. Uses a data pipeline which projects optical images of a user’s surroundings into surround sound in real-time. Helps prevent head-level injuries that occur despite use of a white cane
  • Hosted on a trio of Raspberry Pi's communicating over an ad-hoc Wi-Fi network
  • Pipeline written in Python - communication handled by Flask servers; computer vision in OpenCV

  • A simple upper-body exoskeleton suit for lifting heavy objects, connected to an EEG headband. The EEG headband detects when the user is blinking or clenching their jaw and controls the suit, directing it to either tense or relax
  • Data pipeline involves Bluetooth communication between a native Android app and an Arduino
